Frequently asked questions

  • The Read-A-Thon is a chance to cultivate a joy for reading, while raising money for the building fund of the Dallas Campus. Students will earn participation prizes each week for reading and submitting minutes read. Students will also pledge an amount to donate to the Read-A-Thon, and recruit donors to match their pledge amount. Prizes will be awarded for the number of matching donors.

  • Students will be reading books for bucks from October 25-November 14. Every Friday, minutes read (Friday-Thursday) should be calculated and turned in online. All donations from students and matching donors should be turned in by November 15.

  • This service project, like any other, will involve sacrifice.

    ENCOURAGE your kiddos to read by setting aside specific times for reading.

    BRAINSTORM ways to earn money towards your student's pledge goal and help RECRUIT individual donors to match the student's pledge.

    The campus will have incentives that will encourage participation, but you too can get creative in how YOUR FAMILY can participate from home with your own incentives or rewards. Have fun with this as a family!

  • EVERY FRIDAY, between October 25 and November 15, weekly minutes should be calculated and turned in online. Students will receive prizes for the minutes turned in each Friday.

    *Late minutes will NOT be accepted.  Please only turn in minutes for the current week.

    *Minutes should be totaled from Friday- Thursday. This should allow parents to submit minutes earlier in the day on Friday, and hopefully reduce missed submissions.

    *Please enter minutes as a numerical number, not per hour.  (Ex: 106, not 106 minutes or 1 hour and six minutes)

  • Students calculate minutes read for individual reading, reading to or from a parent, and (for PK-1st grade) listening to audio books  Minutes calculated at school and required school books do not count towards minutes read.

    **Audio books are ONLY allowed for PK-1st grade.

  • ONLY PK-1st grade students can count audio books toward minute totals, unless you have received previous permission from school administration.

  • No, students cannot count required school books/reading toward their minutes read.  Minutes read in class will also NOT be counted towards students minutes

  • All pledges and matching donations need to be collected by November 15,2024.. The money can be donated online OR by a check made payable to CDA Dallas PTF. Checks can be dropped off at the school office.

*Timer bookmarks can help children keep track of their own minutes.

*Set an alarm for Fridays to help you remember to submit minutes.

*Keep a book in the car to get extra minutes during drives or errands.

*Set family incentives! One example is to set minute goals with rewards (i.e. 500 minutes=ice cream, 700 minutes= pizza and ice cream) Another idea is to award student’s for dollars pledged or number of matching donors!
